Welding & Fabrication

Welding is the process of melting two objects together.  The objects are normally made of metal or sometimes thermoplastics.

There are a variety of welding techniques used for different purposes.  Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG welding) is a popular type of welding used for industrial use, in factories and in the home.

The process of MIG welding involves steel wire being fed into a welding gun from a reel.  There is a contact point at the end of the welding gun that is connected to an electrical supply. When the trigger is pulled the steel wire shoots out from the gun and the contact point is electrically charged and melts the wire. An inert gas is also released from the gun to prevent any defects in the weld.

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG Welding) is a different type of welding application to MIG welding, where as MIG welds are created with a consumable electrode a TIG weld is created with non-consumable electrodes.  TIG welding also includes filler metal.
